Bareroot Native Shrub Give-away 2024

Thanks to a grant from the City of Ottawa's Community Environmental Projects Grant Program (CEPGP) we are giving away free bare-root native shrubs from Ferguson Forest Centre the first week of May.

Options:

Important information

  •  The shrubs are bareroot, meaning they do not come with a pot or any soil. As such, they must be planted immediately after pickup.

  • Pick-up is by appointment from homes in Ottawa South. You will receive a confirmation e-mail with pick-up location and time.

Why native shrubs

Are you interested in adding a native shrub to your existing garden or starting a garden bed that focuses mainly on native plants to help provide the perfect food for bees, butterflies, other pollinators and birds? Having a multiple layers with flowers and grasses, shrubs, vines and trees is recommended.

Please fill in this Google Form if you want to receive a free shrub.  We have a limited supply, and have more red-osier dogwood than fragrant sumac or buttonbush so chances are better if you select it.

If you agree to participate, your garden can also form part of one of the Ottawa South Butterflyway that we have registered on the David Suzuki Foundation website.
